Correct nozzle alignment is key to a successful installation of your oiler, get this wrong and no amount of adjustment of the flow or inspired installation of the oiler unit will result in an efficiently oiled chain.
The nozzle needs to be in a position where the oil can keep your chain and sprockets clean and well oiled, long experience has found that applying oil to the side(s) of the sprocket is the most effective way of doing this with the minimum amount of wasted oil.
Many people have set the nozzle up so that it drips straight down onto the lower run of the chain, whilst this may seem the simplest approach it often results in excessive amounts of fling and is very good at spraying a fine mist of oil over the whole of the rear of the bike, you are after all, dropping oil onto a rapidly moving component, drops of oil that are more than likely going to be deflected away from the chain by the passage of air at even moderate road speeds.
Please use the following examples to correctly install the nozzle.
The single feed nozzle
The single feed nozzle should be inserted into the hose adjacent to the internal positioning wire by the barbed end ( indicated by the black band) to ensure a firm, leak free, fitting.
Placing the smooth end of the nozzle into the hose will result in the nozzle being lost.
Every effort should be made to secure the section of hose containing the positioning wire as rigidly as possible to the swing arm with the absolute minimum of unsupported hose between the swing arm mounting position and the nozzle itself. See below for an ideal installation.
Its important that the Nozzle anchoring cable ties hold the hose to the swing arm in the section containing the positioning wire which will prevent the hose from being crushed flat (and cutting off the flow of oil). Care should also be taken with cable ties holding the hose where there is no wire inside there is no need to pull them so tight that they restrict the flow of oil.

The Twin Feed Nozzle
Ideally the twin nozzle is installed so that the tips are touching the sprocket at the 7 O’clock position on the sprocket (assuming a left hand side chain) and that the nozzle tips are lower than the nozzles junction with the oil delivery hose.
This should only be used in conjunction with the Nozzle Anchor kit or the Helix.
A secure rigid mounting is critical for success.
Twin Feed Nozzles are not recommend for bikes where the sprocket mounting bolts are very close to the teeth of the sprocket however a ridge such as seen in the 2nd image above, is not a problem, the tips of the Twin Feed nozzle can be located on the inside edge of this ridge.
The Twin Feed Nozzle must be mounted so that the tips of the nozzle are level with each other as illustrated by the diagram below, if the nozzle is twisted and one side is higher than the other oil will only emit from the lower nozzle. It may seem obvious but its also important to note that the rear of the nozzle where it enters the hose should be higher than the tips of the nozzle where they touch the sprocket.
This is best achieved by using the Nozzle Anchor kit which is designed to allow lateral adjustment by virtue of the threaded rod and vertical adjustment by virtue of angling the “P” clip where it attaches to the threaded rod.
The Nozzle Anchor Kit
Note that the back of the nozzle where the hose connects is higher than the tips which touch the sprocket and that BOTH tips touch the sprocket
A common error is to install the nozzle so that only the outside tip is touching the sprocket, this opens up the “pincer” of the twin feed and leaves a gap so that oil does not get to the inside face of the sprocket.
Also of note is the “p” clip that grips the nozzle on the Nozzle Anchor Kit – this goes on the hose at the point where the nozzle is inserted into it, not on the hose an inch or two behind it – This is correctly illustrated in the instructions which come with the kit.
